Andrea Gariboldi is Researcher in Numismatics (L-ANT/04) at the University of Trieste. He graduated in Literature and Philosophy with a thesis on Roman Numismatics and specialised in Archaeology at the University of Milan. He then obtained a PhD in Iranian Studies at the University of Bologna. He mainly deals with classical and oriental numismatics, in particular studying the relations between Byzantine and Sasanian coinage, also from an economic perspective. He has carried out numerous researches on history of collecting and the origin of numismatic interests in Byzantine coins in Ravenna. He is currently studying coin finds from ancient Ostia and some archaeological sites in Romagna
